Course Title

Introduction to Healthcare Ethics

Course Description

Introduction to Healthcare ethics is an introduction to the field of ethics through the exploration of real-life cases in healthcare ethics for all students including future healthcare professionals. The course begins with the introduction of a concrete method for ethical problem solving, moves to an introduction of general moral principles, then explores specific problems in bioethics such as genetic modification and abortion. This course will help students understand how classical ethical principles are applied to problems encountered in the health care fields and how to address new ethical dilemmas they may be faced with in the future. It will also give them the tools to productively discuss such dilemmas with others including healthcare providers with training in ethics. The course is also designed to make students aware of issues of racism and sexism in the healthcare system.
