Catalog Description

Physical Therapists are licensed health care practitioners who assist patients to reduce pain and improve or restore mobility. They can teach patients how to prevent or manage their condition(s) so that they may achieve long term health and wellness benefits. Physical Therapists examine each patient and develop a plan, using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. They also work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness- and wellness-oriented programs for more active lifestyles.

Students who intend to complete an AS degree at the College of Lake County and transfer to a pre-professional program at a four-year college or university should become familiar with the requirements of the institution to which they plan to transfer very early in their studies.

Demonstrate a foundational knowledge base in the Exercise Sciences.

Use critical thinking skills to analyze evidence that leads to well- reasoned judgments and conclusions.

Outline the academic and credentialing pathways for becoming a Physical Therapist.

Successfully transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a baccalaureate degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science or related field as part of the pathway to pursuing a graduate degree in Physical Therapy.
