Associate in Arts Degree A.A.

Catalog Description

Kinesiology is the study of the art and science of human movement!

It involves instructing physical education classes, designing and implementing exercise programs, studying about the prevention and treatment of athletic injuries, teaching group exercise classes, creating health behavior change strategies, exploring health promotion and disease prevention, and more! Taking Kinesiology classes at CLC can help students to improve their own level of physical fitness, prepare for a career in the health fitness industry, and provide engaging transfer credit moving on to a four-year program.

Many of our Kinesiology courses meet the requirements for students pursuing a Physical Education Endorsement in Illinois. Many of our Health and Wellness Promotion courses meet the requirements for students pursuing a Health Endorsement in Illinois. Successful completion of the certificate and/or degree programs in Kinesiology will prepare students for highly regarded credentials through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) and other accredited fitness and coaching organizations.

This program is recommended for students pursuing a B.A. in Kinesiology with a Physical Education Focus. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with the department chair Joana Pabedinskas early in their program to discuss the different options available within the field of Kinesiology.

Once the program has been completed, students should be able to:

Demonstrate a foundational knowledge base in Kinesiology/Physical Education.

Use critical thinking skills to analyze evidence that leads to well- reasoned judgments and conclusions.

Outline the academic and credentialing pathways for becoming a Physical Education Teacher in Illinois.

Successfully transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a baccalaureate degree in Physical Education or other related field.

For more information on recommended courses or program specific advising, please contact department chair Joana Pabedinskas at jpabedinskas@clcillinois.edu or (847) 543-2029 or the Biological and Health Sciences Division at (847) 543-2042.

The following courses are recommended for students who have not decided upon a specific four-year college or university. Once a transfer school is selected, students are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic Success Advisor to determine courses at CLC which will also meet the transfer requirements. To complete any transfer degree, students should follow the college requirements for associate degrees that transfer.

All course prerequisites must be met. Additionally, students are required to select one course from the International/Multicultural (I/M) list to meet graduation requirements. A grade of C or better is required for all English course requirements.
