Catalog Description

The automotive structural repair certificate prepares students for employment as an entry level automotive structural technician assistant. Coursework places a strong emphasis on the understanding of automotive structural repair theories, reinforced while developing hands-on skills, needed to enter the collision repair industry. Students learn to disassemble and assemble vehicles exterior components, remove and install both stationary and movable glass, sheet metal dent repair including sectioning of vehicle panels, automotive welding, various vehicle measuring systems, and a working knowledge of vehicle mechanical systems. Upon completion of coursework students have the opportunity to earn I-CAR program certification.


Once the program has been completed, students should be able to:

Explain vehicle mechanical systems including Suspension, Steering and Alignment, Drivetrain and support systems.

Describe vehicle structural damage theories and collision energy management.

Set-up vehicle on structural repair “universal fixture” table and bench systems.

Set-up vehicle structural electronic measuring systems including 2D and 3D systems.

Perform 4 major welding joints on steel metal including Rosette, Lap, Open-butt, and Butt with backing joints.

Perform minor structural repairs include pulling and sectioning processes.
