Catalog Description

The Automotive Structural Repair Technician Certificate prepares students for entry-level employment as structural repair technician assistants in the collision repair industry. The program emphasizes both the theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills necessary to perform safe and effective structural repairs on modern vehicles. Coursework includes instruction in vehicle disassembly and reassembly, removal and installation of stationary and movable glass, sheet metal dent repair, panel sectioning, and automotive welding techniques. Students also gain experience with vehicle measuring systems and develop a working understanding of vehicle mechanical systems as they relate to collision repair.

Through a combination of classroom instruction and lab-based exercises using industry-standard tools and equipment, graduates develop the technical proficiency, safety practices, and professional habits required to support structural repair operations in modern collision repair facilities.

Once the program has been completed, students should be able to:

1. Follow safety, environmental, and workplace regulations related to collision repair operations.

2. Disassemble and reassemble vehicle exterior components accurately, ensuring correct fit, alignment, and attachment according to manufacturer specifications.

3. Remove and install stationary and movable vehicle glass following industry-recommended procedures to maintain structural integrity and safety.

4. Perform sheet metal dent repair and panel sectioning techniques to restore vehicle structural surfaces to manufacturer standards.

5. Apply automotive welding techniques to restore vehicle structural surfaces to manufacturer standards.

6. Use vehicle measuring systems and tools to assess structural damage and support accurate repair procedures.

7. Explain the relationship between structural and mechanical systems in vehicles to ensure coordinated repair practices that meet safety and performance standards.
