Catalog Description

This certificate program prepares students to achieve entry level competencies as massage therapists in sports clinics, salons, spas, hospitals, private practice, nursing homes, hospices, wellness centers, and other health care and recreational settings.

Successful completion of 1 (or 2) pre-requisite course plus 2 semesters in our 9-month or 3 semesters in our 12-month full-time cohort program prepares students to complete the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx). Students are then eligible to apply for licensure in Illinois and most other states.

This certificate is 27.5 credit hours (600 clock hours). The 9-month program starts every Fall (August) and continues through Spring semester (May). The 12-month program starts every Spring (January), includes summer session, and continues through Fall semester (December).

All massage therapy courses are to be completed at CLC and are offered at the Southlake Campus in Vernon Hills. All courses comprise the Massage Therapy Program: Individual courses may not be taken (except for MAS 119).

Once the program has been completed, students should be able to:

Distinguish between the scope of practice of the licensed massage therapist and other allied health professionals.

Be prepared and eligible to sit for the Massage and Bodywork Licensing exam (MBLEx),

Apply for massage therapy state licensure.

Formulate an individualized approach to securing viable employment as a licensed massage therapist.
