Medical billers play a critical role in the financial aspects of a physician’s practice. They report the patient’s diagnosis and the services rendered to that patient using special medical codes. These codes are included on the bills submitted to insurance companies, managed care plans, and Medicare. Medical billers need to have extensive knowledge of medical terminology, coding, and insurance procedures. Medical billers are employed by physicians’ offices, clinics, and billing services.

Graduates of the CLC medical billing and coding certificate program will have a thorough understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and pharmacology, which are all essential for accurate coding and billing.

Graduates of the CLC medical billing and coding certificate program will be proficient with Microsoft software applications, electronic medical records for physicians’ offices, and coding in outpatient and physician settings. Graduates will be able to accurately code medical procedures and diagnoses using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.

Graduates of the CLC medical billing and coding certificate program will understand the basic principles of healthcare reimbursement, including insurance claims processing, billing procedures, and compliance with federal regulations.

Graduates of the CLC medical billing and coding certificate program may apply all earned credits from the certificate towards earning the Health Information Technology (HIT) AAS degree. The HIT AAS degree may completed on a part-time or full-time basis.
