Catalog Description

This is a limited enrollment program. Students are required to meet the screening requirements in effect at the time of screening. Students who screen and are accepted into a limited enrollment program will be required to complete the curriculum that is in place at the time of entrance into the program. If students who screen are not granted admission, they must rescreen and satisfy all screening and curriculum requirements in place for a future program start. See Joint Agreements section for more information about the CAREERS agreement.

Once the program has been completed, students should be able to:

Ensure accurate, compliant, and secure health information management by evaluating health record content for regulatory compliance; applying procedures to protect protected health information (PHI); validating diagnostic and procedural coding in accordance with official coding guidelines; and using statistical tools to compile and manage healthcare data.

Collect, manage, and analyze healthcare data using modern technology by utilizing software applications to retrieve and organize information, supporting effective workflows across a range of healthcare environments and systems.

Demonstrate professional and ethical skills by understanding healthcare operations and financing, practicing effective teamwork and inclusivity, and communicating clearly through professional written and oral communication.

Demonstrate skills needed for today’s health information workforce and are eligible to take the national Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) exam offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

Transfer to a university to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management (HIM), where graduates are prepared to plan, direct, and coordinate business and information management operations in healthcare organizations.
