Catalog Description

The HVAC/R Service Technician Certificate program prepares students for employment and specialization as residential and commercial HVAC/R service technicians. The curriculum provides foundational exposure to the HVAC/R industry while emphasizing hands-on service, installation, and diagnostic techniques.

Students develop practical skills in soldering, brazing, and other piping joining methods, as well as safe work practices and industry-standard procedures. Instruction includes mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, refrigerant handling, gauge operation, and the proper use of electrical test instruments. Graduates are prepared to enter the workforce with the technical competencies required to install, service, and maintain HVAC/R systems.

Note: Students are required to complete the HVAC/R Installation Technician certificate (24RY) before beginning this certificate.

Once the program has been completed, students should be able to:

Prepare students for service and installation positions in residential and commercial HVAC

Acquire skills in HVACR principles, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, soldering and brazing

Learn refrigerant handling skills, using gauges and various HVAC/R test instruments
