Catalog Description

The CNC Setup Technician certificate provides applied skills in the operation and preparation of manual and Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machines for current and future needs of the manufacturing industry. The courses are designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to get started as a CNC machine operator, manual machinist or CNC machinist and provide continued studies on basic manual mills and lathes, CNC machine operation, machine and shop safety, fundamental machining processes, interpreting blueprints and inspection & measuring techniques. Machinists and operators already employed in the field will find this certificate a great way to improve their skill set to advance to the setup level.

Once the program has been completed, students should be able to:

1. Interpret mechanical drawings

2. Prepare cutting tool and machine shop calculations

3. Setup and operate Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machine tools

4. Program Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machine tools

5. Demonstrate semi-precision and precision measuring techniques
