Catalog Description

The Automotive Collision Repair Assistant Certificate prepares students for entry-level employment as collision repair assistants in automotive repair facilities. The program emphasizes safe work practices, foundational repair knowledge, and hands-on skills necessary to support technicians and refinishing staff. Coursework includes instruction in shop safety, dent repair, plastic repair, bolted panel removal and installation, movable glass service, vehicle detailing, and vehicle preparation for refinishing. Students also gain exposure to collision damage estimating and the interpretation of repair documentation.

Through classroom instruction and lab-based experience, students develop the technical proficiency, safety awareness, and professional habits required to assist effectively in modern collision repair operations.

Once the program has been completed, students should be able to:

1. Follow safety, environmental, and workplace regulations related to collision repair operations.

2. Assist with the removal, repair, and installation of vehicle panels and components to support accurate and efficient collision repairs.

3. Perform dent repair, plastic repair, and movable glass service using appropriate tools and techniques to meet quality standards.

4. Prepare vehicles for refinishing and detailing, including cleaning, masking, and surface preparation, to ensure proper finish application.

5. Interpret collision damage estimates and repair documentation to support repair planning and workflow in a collision repair facility.
