Catalog Description

Arboriculture and urban forestry management involve caring for the health and functional well being of trees. Tree resources are critical not only for shade and beauty, but for the ability to sequester carbon and help offset climate change effects. Coursework prepares students for work in a range of tree care industry careers.

Once the program has been completed, students should be able to:

Safely demonstrate the methods used to prune and shape trees.

Identify major tree pests and diseases.

Select trees that are suitable for a particular site based on the "right plant in the right place" principle.

Identify trees and shrubs commonly used in landscaping and environmental restoration in the northern Illinois region.
