Degree: Certificate
Plan 25HJ
This program is designed for students who have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in human services, social work, counseling, or an approved related field and are interested in gaining specialized knowledge and skills to work in agencies and programs specialized in helping people associated with the criminal justice system. This includes organizations with programs for those in correctional facilities as well as those within the community. The students will gain skills and knowledge to enhance their previous education and enable employment in the human services fields.
Students with less than a bachelor’s degree are encouraged to complete the A.A.S. degree in correctional counseling, Plan 25HK, or the A.A. degree in social work or related field and then transfer. The current trend to reduce prison populations and support criminal justice reform creates more opportunity for community correctional programs and the need for specialists to work in this field. The prerequisite coursework may be waived by the Department Chair for students with similar courses and a master’s degree in an approved program.
