Automotive Electrical Systems

Course Description

This course introduces students to the theory, operation, and service of automotive electrical and electronic systems as they relate to collision repair. Emphasis is placed on electrical safety, electrical theory, circuit operation, wiring repair, and the proper use of diagnostic tools. Instruction includes power sources, starting and charging systems, lighting and accessory systems, vehicle management systems, and supplemental restraint systems (SRS). Students are also introduced to hybrid and electric vehicle systems, high-voltage safety procedures, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) affected by collision damage. Classroom instruction is reinforced through hands-on laboratory activities using live vehicles and industry-standard training aids to develop practical diagnostic and repair skills. NOTE: Students must successfully complete the course with a final grade of “C” or better to advance all Automotive Collision Repair courses. Work Experience may be considered to meet the prerequisite.
