Automotive Refinishing I
Course Description
This course is the first of a four-course automotive refinishing sequence and introduces students to the theory and fundamentals of automotive refinishing as it relates to collision repair. Emphasis is placed on refinishing safety practices, environmental and regulatory compliance, and proper vehicle protection. Instruction includes surface preparation procedures, spray gun fundamentals, and an introduction to undercoats such as primers and sealers, along with refinishing production practices, workflow efficiency, and quality control methods used in professional collision repair facilities. Classroom instruction is reinforced through hands-on laboratory experience designed to develop foundational refinishing skills and prepare students for industry-level practices. NOTE: Students must successfully complete the course with a final grade of “C” or better to advance all Automotive Collision Repair courses. Work Experience may be considered to meet the prerequisite.
