Course Description
This course provides students with foundational knowledge and skills related to the healthcare delivery system, regulations and standards, and the health information department and profession. The focus is on health data content, purpose and structure, and techniques to assure quality documentation of healthcare facility records, with an emphasis on acute and ambulatory settings. Content includes legal and ethical issues related to health information, covers State and Federal laws on privacy, confidentiality, and release of information relative to the health record, and reviews HIPAA. In addition, students are introduced to data use and statistics, revenue cycle compliance, and leadership.
